Anime was way cooler before it became cool

Sun Jun 1, 2008, 8:28 PM
Well, I'm all done with A-Kon for the year. It was more crowded than EVAR. I spent most of my time hanging out at the AP booth, which is increasingly awkward as long as I don't have new stuff to promote. I am proud that they sold out of the stock of How NOT to Draw Manga and Legends from Darkwood that they had on hand. When the final copy of How NOT is gone from the AP stores, I want to hold a Good Riddance party ;P.

Anyways, cons feel so different now. I can barely take A-Kon. I had to get out of there as soon as the dealers' room closed everyday, having all the people and noise I could take. The way it used to be, I would spend all day and all night at the convention, taking in new comics and shows. Now it's just all cosplayers, teenagers, and noise... I didn't even make it to the viewing rooms this year (though I said I would), and I don't think it's even important to con-goers now. They didn't even have the schedules for those rooms posted in the con booklet anymore.

I saw and hung out with a whole bunch of you guys this year, though. More you than I can even begin to list, even. Thanks for showin' up and saying 'hi'. Maybe next year I can be more on top of all of my stuff.....

Hey something that I'm really curious to know: Apparently there was a panel called "How NOT to Draw Manga" on Saturday night. The people doing it had nothing to do with me or AP, so I'm kinda curious to know what happened or what was discussed there. Did anyone see that? Was it cool? Would I have been pissed?

I'm closing commissions for a little bit just so I can get caught up with the ones in my queue. Thanks everybody who's hired me: that stuff pays for food and my health insurance payment ;P. I should be posting more soon I hope.

Other than that, I got a scholarship from the College of Arts and Sciences here at UNT! YAY! Not enough to cover me, but it helps. Also pretty sure I got an A in the class I did the weird slideshow for. I was looking over my grades with the TA, and I'm happy to say it appeared I'd practically have to fail the final to get a B. Science of Musical Sound and American Lit. Post 1870s start this week, so I'm pretty excited about those.

Dude, congrats on the scholarship!

As i said to David (and he agrees), A-Kon really brings out the worst in me. I just get really angry and want to hurt people; my tolerance for stupidity/people drops into the negative.

And was it just me or did it smell even worse this year than years previous?
Thankx! It was good getting to hang out with you at the sketch jam, even if we didn't do much jamming...

You know I usually don't really pick up on smells too much when I'm in public. The staff did an admirable job keeping the escalators up and running this year, though.

I think girls are pretty.
Hey, John, glad to see you there. I did slightly better this year than last. About 10 dollar difference. I'm most probably not do it again next year, gotta move on to bigger things.

Luu, if you walked past gaming rooms, you'll notice.

Oh my God! It's wearing underpants!
Woot for Scholarships! Boo for teenagers!

I was disappointed that I missed most of Saturday this year, but now I'm kinda glad I did. Even around 6 the place was still stiflingly crowded. :P

When they run out of that book, you know they'll do a second printing!

I need a marketing team of my own
I remember they had a panel like that last year and I thought "yay inkmo!" and was very dissapointed when it was just some people (a lady I think) talking about random steriotype things you see in manga. one thing I remember distinctly was the lady saying "Dont draw the lines for eyes that are covered behind hair" or somesuch.
Congradulations on the scholarship! ^_^
