So I had an (probably unadvisable) idea! I thought it would be fun to play Random Rules ala the onion AV club www.avclub.com/content/feature… through the voice of one of your characters. Basically, put your mp3 player or winamp or whatever on shuffle and explain away the first 10 things that pop up. I guess you can tag other unfortunate souls, too.
Inkmo spends basically all of his time dancing in front of his boombox. He probably won't even sleep if you just leave him alone. It's kind of a spectacle. As one would imagine, music must play a profound role in his life, and must also be a constant source of irritation to his roommates. I thought I'd ask him to play along and tell us a little about what's on his playlist. So, uh, here's Inkmo:
"first off, my musical tastes are totally huge and so ten songs is not an accurate sampling. I know everything about these songs and sometimes songs I haven't even heard yet. My explanations are always right even when they're blatant lies, so listen up:
Random Rules with Inkmo
1. Antony and the Johnsons - Hope There's Someone
"Antony is a male singer who sings beautifully and insists he is a woman. I can identify with this though sometimes these feelings make me confused. He sounds very much like Nina Simone and this is a good thing; in fact, he sounds as much like Nina Simone as a white british man could possibly sound I guess."
2. Ego Wrappin' - Pappaya
"Ego Wrappin' is sorta a jazz band from Japan. Did I mention I went to Japan? Because I did. Anyways, here, some cute sounding girl is singing about fruit (I think?). I like this song, even though I don't really like fruit (even the expensive ones)."
3. Blondie - Do the Dark
"I LOVE punk rock because I am so punk rock and anti-establishment :claps hands: -- and I LOVE disco because I am fraught with hilariously incongruous character traits. That and I love to dance. Well, guess what? Blondie is the classy lady that does both of these genres flawlessly, and sometimes on the same album. She really straddles the ol' dichotomy there, like Meeko might say. Also, she invented rap music."
4. Diana Krall - The Look of Love
"I don't know I think Kantz put this on here in some sort of attempt to expand my cultural horizons and stuff. I like Diana Krall because she sings Fly Me to the Moon (I'll bet) and that's practically animoo music! If you are reading this journal and also listening to Diana Krall, it's probably for the exact same reason I am, so pat your self on the back you are almost a real music snob. Like ME. And also, because she was on that car commercial about how she replaced her home stereo with her car?"
5. Clap Your Hands Say Yeah - The Skin of My Yellow Country Teeth
"I love clap your hands say yeah because of the triumphant positive message embodied in their NAME ALONE, about how we should all clap, and agree with people, and be happy (I have totally internalized all of this). The complex themes in this song re: being a redneck, dental hygeine hit very close to home for me and ol' Jackmo, too."
6. Massive Attack - Lately
"Massive Attack would be like... if Radiohead were a hip-hop outfit, except they're really good! Which Thom Yorke wouldn't... well, it's unimaginable."
7. Jim O'Rourke - Happy Holiday
"Jim O'Rourke is an artsy rock-auteur. He can do everything, like proggish style phish-rock, countrified depression-themes, jazz numbers, and half hour long tracks of unlistenable sine waves, which there are very fancy words for that fetch good reviews (e.g. 'mutating landscape' or something). He makes all these sounds with his mouth alone. He has vibes and marimbas surgically grafted to his arms and one time super-flew to New York just to make everyone at Pitchfork Media sad. He built Jeff Tweedy out of various robot parts in his studio, too."
8. Pillows - Come Down
"This is from the FLCL soundtrack. FLCL is a very accurate representation of Japanese life down to the giant robots and murderous women that stalk Nippon's labrynthine streets (I know this because I am a Japan-expert remember?). Fortunately, this song is abnormally un-squeeky for anime music."
9. They Might Be Giants - Cowtown
"If you're talking about music full of weird noises and basically nonsense, then I'm your dialed-in audience -- so, of course, They Might Be Giants is frickin' on here.... Did you know that in this song, Cowtown is UNDERWATER?"
10. Doves - Catch the Sun
"Is the guy in Doves also the guy from Coldplay? I can't tell."

Midnight Commander
Oh hey guys I haven't been around in forever. I think I might have to upload some of the sketches and drawings I've made in the last year and a half here pretty soon. Most of my creative output since my last update has been music related. Last summer I got the idea in my head that it would be really great to produce an album totally on my cellphone, so I did that. Then, in November, I thought it made a lot of sense to do a music and noise version of Inktober. Thirty days and twenty-seven new songs later, I completed my first Noisevember. Pretty much everything I do is sort of harsh and lo-fi. I make a lot of use of the Korg DS programs and na
3DS
Oh hey. I bought one of those 3DS XLs. So I guess I'll never see u gais again once my copy of Animal Crossing arrives in the mail.
Phew
I've been sick the past couple days and used this time to catch up on my deviantart. Went through something like 3,000 things on my dashboard.
Hey guys I mailed zines to: be sure and note me or something when they come in? I'm just paranoid the post man will screw up and I'll never know. Unless you're one of the people that ordered one in the last two or three days, it's in the mail.
Other than that, I still have copies laying around if you're interested or missed my last journal or whatever. Check it out http://tmblr.co/ZjnVQxfpHiK2
JKSFZ
So I made my silly little minicomic zine thing. It's a zine about adventuring and dungeon crawling, as written by Inkmo, Master of Adventure and Zine Founding. I still have a decent number and am selling them for $7 online via paypal. Note me on dA or tumblr for ordering instructions if you'd like to procure a copy. More here: http://tmblr.co/ZjnVQxfpHiK2

Oh wow!
I just listened to the FLCL soundtrack this morning on the tram for the first time in ages, and there you go talking about it.
Yeah, great stuff the Pillows, I'm not much of a rock fan, but you just got to love their over-the-top distortion and guitar effects and their cheesy but punky tunes. My favorite is Little Busters.
